Many people do do the trip to Bonneval, the majority though do go with professional guides who know the best way there and who organise the return flight back to Val for you!!

An Expensive Day Out!!
A few days ago I headed up to Le Fornet to play around on the glacier and see if I could see over towards Bonneval for a photo opportunity, unfortunately the clouds put a stop to that and no photo was obtained. The whole reasoning behind this wee excursion was to show the terrain and explain how some of our guests the other week made a small error in their skiing and map reading skills! Bonneval is way over the other side of the mountains at Le Fornet, on the way to Italy. It's beautiful in summer as you can drive over the col d'Iseran and it's a quaint little village. However, in winter, the only way you can reach it is by skiing over there, off piste!
All good fun and a different day out, unfortunately, once you're there though you cant get back, unless of course, you fly! Our poor guests staying in Ruby found this out the hard way and merrily got to Bonneval and were intrigued as to where the lift system back to Val was. They had to resort to asking in the Tourist Office and it was there they were told they would have to come back here in a helicopter costing 500 euros!!! Whoops! Quite an expensive mistake to make! Fortunately though, there was a copter available for them!
